Speaker Biography

Lyn Whitfield, Managing Editor, E-Health Insider

Lyn is a graduate of Oxford University and the London School of Economics, from which she holds an MSc in public policy and planning.

She has been a journalist for more than a decade. Lyn started her journalism career on local newspapers, but went on to develop an interest in the public sector and technology.

She joined E-Health Insider as managing editor in 2008, after five years as a freelance writer, editor and project manager working for health service organisations and think-tanks as well as newspapers and magazines.

 

Anne Casey RN, MSc, FRCN Editor and Adviser, Royal College of Nursing, UK Clinical Domain Lead, NHS (England) Information Standards Board.

Anne’s background is in paediatric nursing and she is editor of Paediatric Nursing, the leading UK journal for nurses caring for paediatric nurses.

At the Royal College of Nursing, Anne is leading on development of professional nursing content for electronic records and communications. She also works with the NHS Information Standards Board to ensure multi-professional input into the appraisal of information standards for the NHS in England.

Anne is a member of the content committee of the SNOMED International Terminology Development Organisation and chair of the SNOMED nursing working group. She was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing in 2002 in recognition of her contribution to paediatric nursing and health informatics.

 

Paul Volkaerts, Business Transformation Manager Cisco Systems Limited

Paul works within Cisco Sales and Business Development providing collaboration-focused business consultancy to Healthcare organisations. Paul leverages his 20 years' experience in converged and collaborative technologies to help healthcare organisations identify clinical processes that can benefit from the adoption of collaboration tools and technologies. By this combination of technology adoption and process change, waste and inefficiencies can be reduced within healthcare delivery.

Prior to joining Cisco in 1999, Paul held a variety of senior engineering roles within Mitel and Gandalf Digital Communications focusing upon convergence technologies.

Paul has an Honours Degree in Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. Paul lives in Berkshire with his wife and two children, and enjoys running to keep fit and healthy.

 

Sue Rushbrook, Head of Systems and Network Services York Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust

Sue Rushbrook, Associate Director Systems and Network Services at York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was voted Healthcare ICT Champion of the Year in the BT E-Health Insider Awards 2008.

The award was earned for Sue’s work in developing and implementing an information and communications technology strategy that has not only seen the Trust develop a cutting-edge voice and data network across a large local health community but also integrated that network with its core computer systems.

Sue’s driving force is the belief that IT should always support the delivery of high quality effective healthcare regardless of the setting.
