E-Health Insider Webinar
Speaker: Lyn Whitfield Managing Editor, E-Health Insider
Chair’s introduction
Chair’s introduction: Following the launch by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement of its initiative, The Productive Series, Cisco began to look at how technology can help increase NHS productivity. In particular, Cisco wanted to explore how information and communication technologies can make time to care and enable a productive ward using technologies such as wireless networks, asset tracking and unified communications.
Speaker: Anne Casey RN, MSc, FRCN, Editor and Adviser; UK Clinical Domain Lead
Organisation: Royal College of Nursing and NHS (England) Information Standards Board
Topic: Online surveys by the Royal College of Nursing confirm that the majority of nurses welcome ICT, believing it will improve continuity, care delivery and quality. Systems that are designed to support nursing work rather than simply to replace patient records have the potential to release more time to care. However, such systems must be safe, fit for purpose and fit for practice. Rigorous testing and risk management need to be part of the development and deployment life cycle of all ICT solutions.
Live Q&A
Speaker: Paul Volkaerts, Business Transformation Manager
Organisation: Cisco Systems Limited
Topic: Paul’s presentation will focus on the value of adopting an architectural approach and the benefits of a Technical Reference Model by providing an underlying platform that links business drivers to technology. Paul will provide NHS examples of how this infrastructure can address the challenges of releasing time to care, including the use of technologies such as wireless networking, asset/location tracking and unified communications.
Live Q&A
Speaker: Sue Rushbrook, Associate Director, Systems and Network Services
Organisation: York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Topic: Sue will discuss her work on the trust’s COIN network, including voice, video and integrated data. She will also speak about the deployment of a wireless network which enabled the use of wireless IP handsets and released time to care by moving staff away from fixed line telephones and pagers. Integration of the wireless network with the trust’s Core Patient Database has streamlined the admission and discharge process, ensured rapid turnaround of beds in A&E and increased levels of clinical engagement with IT.
